tour of "la huerta" | tour arround the city

TOUR OF "LA HUERTA"

Azud de la Contraparada
Medieval reservoir of immense proportions built to dominate the riverbed of the river Segura and divert its water by way of the major channels which irrigate the Huerta (agricultural countryside).

Noria de La Ñora
Water wheel situated in the Aljufia major ditch, which is used to raise the water and divert it through another channel thereby allowing the irrigation of more land.

Castillejo de Monteagudo
Situated a few meters from the castle, this is the most emblematic example of municipal architecture for specialists in the culture and art of the Andalusíes. It was the summer residence of the emirs or kings of Murcia, and it is made up of a fortified palace in the centre of a huge royal Almunia.

Castillo de Monteagudo
Fortification situated on a hill in the nearby town of Monteagudo. It was the main defensive bastion of the city, as it dominated the whole of the valley. It consists of three walled terraces at different heights. Amongst other remains, monumental wells and granaries can be seen.

Castillo de La Luz (Santa Catalina, Verdolay)
Fortification situated in the mountainous foothills to the south of the city. It was probably used by the people as a refuge in times of instability. The view of the city is excellent and it still has wall canvases and the remains of wells.
